Nomination of Sandra Rodriguez to Human Relations Commission

I am pleased to nominate Sandra Rodriguez to the City of San Diego’s Human Relations Commission.

Sandra is a community organizer with Mid-City CAN(Community Advocacy Network).  She has organized and led City Heights residents to form juvenile justice reform campaigns by teaching residents advocacy skills and creating policy opportunities.  She has also collaborated with the San DiegoSchool Police to develop a restorative practice training model that improves student and police interaction.  Ms.Rodriguez has developed and maintained relationships with various stakeholders including the District Attorney’s office, Public Defender’s Office, ProbationDepartment as well as many local grassroots organizations.  

Sandra has been involved in organizations including the Bi-National Center forHuman Rights in Tijuana, the National Association of Community and RestorativeJustice and has volunteered for ACLU and the San Diego Humane Society.

Sandra’s unwavering commitment working for human and civil rights processes that foster mutual respect and understanding will undoubtedly assist in the effort to make the Commission an entity that helps deliver tangible results.
