Request to docket Resolution in support of implementing Marriage Equality

July 22, 2013

On Friday, the San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/Clerk Ernest Dronenburg has filed a petition to temporarily block clerks from issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples. Given that the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals lifted a stay on such unions last month, I agree with California Attorney General Kamala Harris that it is unconstitutional to discriminate against same-sex couples, and that all 58 California counties are required to perform same-sex marriages.

Given your strong support of this issue, I urge you to docket a resolution condemning this attempted delay in the implementation of marriage equality and supporting the efforts of our Attorney General to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

I hope our colleagues will stand with me in supporting the equal rights of all our constituents to love and marry the person they choose.
