Assemblymember David Alvarez was appointed as Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. Selected by Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, Assemblymember Alvarez assumes a pivotal role in overseeing and upholding the integrity of California's governmental agencies and programs.

As part of his role as Chair of te Committee, Assemblymember Alvarez approved an audit on the rate increases at San Diego Gas & Electric. As a result of this audit, which monitored the operations of the California Public Utilities Commission and Public Advocate Office, the committee discovered gaps in their oversight of utility costs. These gaps could potentially expose customers to unwarranted rate hikes.

The primary jurisdiction of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee is to investigate, study, analyze, and assess the financial practices and performance of existing governmental and/or publicly created entities in California in order to assist those entities in fulfilling the purpose for which they were created by the Legislature.
