SAN DIEGO (November 10, 2014) – Regarding the City Council’s [unanimous/majority] support for lifting the cap on San Diego’s taxi industry, Alvarez made the following statement:
“This is an historic day for San Diego. As a Council we’ve come together in a bipartisan manner to provide an opportunity for hundreds of San Diegans to pursue their own American dreams. Small businesses are the engine of our regional economy, and with our action today we’ve lowered the barriers to our hardworking taxi workforce to join and form their own small businesses.
We’re reforming this industry to allow opportunity through economic development, to remove retaliation and intimidation, and to improve safety measures and working conditions; that’s something we can all be proud of moving forward together.”
