SAN DIEGO (December 14, 2015) – Councilmember Alvarez has issued the following statement in response to the City of San Diego’s Fiscal Year 2017-2021 Five-Year Capital Infrastructure Planning Outlook. This report includes a $1.4 billion shortfall to address the City’s streets, parks, sidewalks and fire stations.
“The City has a long way to go in addressing its long neglected infrastructure. Although the City has been able to borrow some money to begin fixing some assets, there is still a major funding gap. Even if the City had all the money needed, there is no real plan to build all the projects that require repair or construction. Until then, it is misleading to tell the public that our infrastructure problem has been solved.”
