Who: Councilmember David Alvarez joins local residents, representatives from SDG&E, Cox Cable, AT&T and the City of San Diego’s Utilities Undergrounding Program.
What: The “pole-out” ceremony will remove one of the last overhead utility poles in Sherman Heights.
When: Wednesday, January 8 at 10:30AM on 22nd Street between Island Avenue and Market Street.
Why: The Sherman Heights neighborhood received new utility services through the “Residential Project Block 8G – Sherman Heights” undergrounding project. The cost of the project was approximately $5.8 million.
An estimated 2 miles of overhead utility lines have been converted to underground service here. When the project is completely wrapped up, 22 new streetlights and 48 pedestrian ramps will have been installed in an area serving more than 400 residents. In addition, approximately 59 trees will be planted and streets will be resurfaced.
