San Diego City Council Takes First Step Toward Suing Federal Government Over Tijuana River Valley Sewage Spill

October 4, 2017

SAN DIEGO (October 4, 2017) – Councilmember Alvarez has issued the following statement regarding San Diego City Council’s approval to file a Notice of Intent to sue the federal government and the International Boundary and Water Commission.  The City of San Diego joins the cities of Chula Vista and Imperial Beach, along with the Port of San Diego in taking this first step to stop raw sewage from pouring into the Tijuana River Valley.

“I would like to thank my City Council colleagues for joining me in supporting the efforts to protect and enhance the Tijuana River Valley and the communities in South San Diego. I appreciate the diligent work of our City Attorney to ensure that this problem receives the attention we deserve from the federal government.”
