San Diego Councilmember David Alvarez to honor Xolos de Tijuana

February 11, 2013

San Diego, CA- City Councilmember David Alvarez will be honoring Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles De Caliente commonly known as Xolos de Tijuana or Xolos, a first division Mexican Soccer Team at City Council on Tuesday, February 12, 2013.

Xolos de Tijuana won the Mexican First Division Soccer League Championship by defeating Toluca with a score of 2-0 in December 2012, winning the admiration and respect of fans across both sides of the border.  They have also excelled and received international recognition, winning two titles under the San Diego Classic, a soccer tournament that traditionally takes place in California

Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles De Caliente has demonstrated their commitment to the community through their participation in the Crime Prevention Project carried out by the City of Tijuana’s Municipal Department of Public Safety. The project’s objective is to support and improve the future of Tijuana’s youth, encouraging them to stay away from drugs and violence by promoting sports.

The Xoloitzcuintles Training Center, which trains children from an early age, has been a complete success, with over 500 students currently enrolled at the Tijuana location, leading up to the creation of more training centers in the municipalities of Rosarito and Ensenada, as well as in Chula Vista and Temecula.

“I am pleased to honor Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles De Caliente as they have been a source of pride for both San Diegans and those in Tijuana,” said Councilmember Alvarez.
